What sorts of content can YUDU help me publish?
Quite literally anything and everything. You might be publishing magazines, catalogs or books, educational resources or corporate material. If you have it in a PDF format, Yudu's cloud-based system can convert it.
What do you mean by “cloud-based”?
Simply, this means that Yudu's publishing system, YUDU Publisher, works within an internet-browser environment. Less simply, it refers to the fact that this system is located server-side, so there are no lengthy downloads or installations and the experience is optimized for performance.
How long has YUDU been in business?
Since 2002. Unlike many other companies in this space Yudu has a long-established name. There were one of the first companies to pioneer publishing apps for tablet devices back in 2011. This means that they offer guaranteed experience, expertise and security.
App Delivery - Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take to get me on the app stores?
Designing the app will take a few weeks, while building may only take two or three days, plus any additional time involved in your approval and amends. Apple have stated that it can take anything up to 28 days for an app to be approved. That said, most of our apps take 3 weeks, but we cannot guarantee this.
Can I proofread my publications before they go live?
Yes. You can generate as many previews as are necessary to proofread your publications before they appear in your app. Simply log onto the proofing app and test it out. If you are producing digital publications for your clients, you may wish to have your own branded proofing app so that you can offer the same service to them.
Can I add interactivity to my publication?
Of course! With Yudu's Dynamic Layers feature you are able to overlay interactive content built in HTML, JavaScript or CSS directly onto pages, either to be downloaded with the publication or streamed via the internet.
Can I control who can access my app?
Certainly. All YUDU applications can be protected via a username and password facility, allowing you to produce a ‘closed-access’ application. Furthermore, each login has a pre-determined number of devices it can access, so you can rest assured your content is safe with YUDU.
How secure is my app?
Applications are a very secure method of providing digital content to your readership through subscription and offer several layers of protection, from the store that it is hosted on, to the fact that the content cannot be ripped/removed from your publications. This can be further restricted by a closed-access app controlled via a username and password should you have sensitive information.
Can I get stats and user data from the app?
Yes you can. YUDU provides statistics for each publication published in the app. The download information of each application can be accessed through the relevant aggregator store (iTunes, Google Play, etc.).
Is there a limit to how many publications/books/magazines I can place in the app?
There is absolutely no limit.

Can I change my digital publication once it has gone live?
Of course. If you are simply amending an existing page then we won’t charge you a penny. If you wish to increase the number of pages in your publication, we will only charge you for what you add. No full reprint charges, no paper waste, no fuss.
Can I self-host my content?
If you wish to, yes, but please be aware that you are responsible for the security, page delivery speeds and up-time of your publications once deployed. YUDU can host your publications to ensure availability you can rely on and true global reach. We use Limelight Networks' content delivery network (CDN) so that your publications can be delivered lightning fast wherever your audience is, and all our content servers use redundant architecture to avoid any single point of failure. That means your digital publications are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, around the globe.
Can I control who can view my publication?
You can offer your publications completely free, for sale, or as part of a subscription/username and password entry. The DRM (Digital Rights Management) system provides the ability to manage your subscriber database with ease, offering different levels of access based on individual publications or dates. Furthermore, our digital publications are automatically indexed via Google, which can also be switched on and off at the click of a mouse, should you need to change this.
How do I access the statistics of my digital publication?
Within the easy-to-use yet intuitive publishing system, simply click on View Statistics to access 36 individual statistics on how, where, when and by whom your publication has been viewed – even down to the internet browser used. You can access your statistics in a graph or chart format, with many available as downloadable reports over variable lengths of time, ideal for judging the impact of your digital content.
Can I have more than one self-publishing account?
You can assign any number of user access details to your account in YUDU Publisher, from any location at any given time. If you are the organized type, you can organize your content by project folders. Once these have been set up you just need to create log-ins for each folder, and give access to the relevant people on your team. Yudu will fully equip you with tools to create multiple accounts for users and projects, and provide you with a simple interface to manage and provide your content.
Can I receive training for the self-publishing application?
There are help videos you can use to guide you through the tools you need to create your publication. The platform has been designed to be super intuitive, though, and if you are used to any other kind of online system, you shouldn’t have any issues. Of course, if you find you do need extra support, our team are at hand. We can set up one-to-one training webinars, for a small fee, either at our offices or yours.
EISH DIGITAL Terms of Conditions
1. Agreement
The Terms and Conditions as stated consists of the Confirmation of Rate/Order Confirmation and the Terms and Conditions and constitutes the entire agreement between the Customer and EISH DIGITAL in relation to the EISH DIGITAL Service (the 'Service'). By agreeing to the Rate/Order Confirmation, or by accessing or using the Service, the Customer accepts the content of the Terms and Conditions.
2. Product
EISH DIGITAL will provide Customer with the online publishing application described and any new updated features that EISH DIGITAL releases during the term of an agreement that augment or enhance the current publishing application (the Service). EISH DIGITAL will host the Service, unless arranged otherwise by way of separate agreement, and may update the content, functionality, and user interface of the Service from time to time at its sole discretion and in accordance with this agreement.
3. Usage Grant
Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, EISH DIGITAL grants the Customer during the Term of this Agreement the unlimited, non-exclusive, non-transferable (except in connection with an assignment under Section 12 below), worldwide and terminable license to use the Service and to display content solely for Customer's internal business operations, and that the rights granted to Customer are provided to Customer on the condition that Customer does not (and does not allow any third party to) copy, modify, create a derivative work of, reverse engineer, reverse assemble, disassemble, or decompile the Service or any part thereof or otherwise attempt to discover any source code, modify the Service in any manner or form, or use unauthorized modified versions of the Service, including (without limitation) for the purpose of building a similar or competitive product or service or for the purpose of obtaining unauthorized access to the Service. Customer is expressly prohibited from sublicensing use of the Service to any third parties. Customer acknowledges and agrees that EISH DIGITAL shall own all rights, title and interest in and to all intellectual property rights in the Service. Except as provided in this Agreement, the license granted to Customer does not convey any rights in the Service, express or implied, or ownership in the Service or any intellectual property rights thereto. Any rights not expressly granted herein are reserved by EISH DIGITAL.
4. License from Customer
Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Customer grants EISH DIGITAL the non exclusive non-transferable (except in connection with an assignment under Section 13 below) license to copy, store, record, transmit, maintain, display, view, print, or otherwise use Customer Data solely to the extent necessary to provide the Service to Customer. Customer agrees that the license to Customer Data shall survive the termination of this Agreement for 90 days, solely for the purpose of storing backup Customer Data at an offsite storage facility. Customer Data is owned by Customer and EISH DIGITAL may not use it for any purpose other than as described in this Section.
5. Limited Warranties
EISH DIGITAL warrants that (1) the Service will be free from material defects under normal use; (2) the code of the software underlying the Service meets industry standards in all respects.
6. Disclaimer Of Warranties
Except as stated in Section 5 or in the Terms of Use, EISH DIGITAL does not represent that customer's use of the service will be secure, timely, uninterrupted or error-free or that the service will meet customer's requirements or that all errors in the service and/or documentation will be corrected or that the system that makes the service available will be free of viruses or other harmful components. The warranties stated in Section 5 or the Terms of Use are the sole and exclusive warranties offered by EISH DIGITAL. There are no other warranties or conditions, express or implied, including without limitation, those of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. The service is provided to customer on an "as is" and "as available" basis, and is for commercial use only. Customer assumes all responsibility for determining whether the service or the information generated thereby is accurate or sufficient for customer's purposes.
7. Limitations of Liability
Customer acknowledges and agrees that the consideration which EISH DIGITAL is charging hereunder does not include any consideration for assumption by EISH DIGITAL of the risk of Customer's incidental or consequential damages. In no event shall either party be liable to anyone for incidental, consequential, punitive, special or exemplary damages, or indirect damages of any type or kind (including loss of data, revenue, profits, use or other economic advantage), arising from breach of warranty or breach of contract, or negligence, or any other legal cause of action arising from or in connection with this agreement. The essential purpose of this provision is to limit the potential liability of the parties arising from this Agreement.
8. Indemnification
EISH DIGITAL shall defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Customer and its subsidiaries and their respective directors, officers, employees, and agents from and against all actions, causes of action, liabilities, claims, suits, judgments, liens, awards, and damages of any kind and nature whatsoever (hereinafter referred to as "Claims") and expenses, costs of litigation (including without limitation clerk, paralegal, and expert witness costs), and reasonable attorneys' fees related thereto, or incident to establishing the right to indemnification, whether or not specifically awardable under any court rules, to the extent such Claims arise out of a claim of the infringement of any patent or copyright by the Service, or involve the wrongful use of any trade secret or confidential information by EISH DIGITAL. The foregoing notwithstanding, EISH DIGITAL shall not be liable to Customer for Customer's consequential damages or lost profits as a result of Customer's inability to use the Service due to any permanent injunction. Customer shall give EISH DIGITAL prompt notice of all Claims made against Customer or any of its affiliated or subsidiary companies and shall cooperate with EISH DIGITAL (at EISH DIGITAL's expense) in the defense or settlement of such Claims. In no event shall EISH DIGITAL's obligations hereunder be limited to the extent of any insurance available to or provided by EISH DIGITAL. If the Service is, or is likely to be, the subject of an infringement claim, EISH DIGITAL, at its expense, shall: (a) procure the right to allow Customer to continue to use the Service, or (b) modify or replace the Service or infringing portions thereof to become non-infringing, without loss of material functionality. If EISH DIGITAL is unable to provide one of the remedies in (a) or (b) within forty-five (45) days of notice of the claim, EISH DIGITAL shall have the right to terminate this Agreement and refund all fees paid hereunder for the Service. The foregoing remedies are in addition to any other remedies Customer would have at law or equity.
9. Terms of Use of Service
Customer acknowledges and agrees it has read, understands and agrees to be bound by the Eish Digital Terms of Use as posted on the Eish Digital website www.eishdigital.co.za. If there is any conflict between the Terms of Use and this Agreement, the terms of this Agreement will supersede. Customer agrees that any new features that augment or enhance the Service, and/or any new service(s) subsequently purchased by the Customer, will be subject to this Agreement.
10. Suspension
10.1 Suspension
EISH DIGITAL reserves the right to suspend Customer's access to and/or use of the Service and/or de-publish specific undisputed, unpaid publications (and that of any other customer of EISH DIGITAL that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with Customer) (a "Customer Affiliate")) for any accounts for which any undisputed payment is due but unpaid. This only after EISH DIGITAL has provided Customer with two (2) overdue notice reminders. EISH DIGITAL also reserves the right to suspend Customer's access and/or use of the Service and/or de-publish specific undisputed, unpaid publications in the event that any Customer Affiliate account is overdue for payment. Customer agrees that EISH DIGITAL shall not be liable to Customer or to any Customer Affiliate or other third party for any suspension of the Service resulting from Customer's non-payment of fees as described in this Section.
10.2 Suspension for Ongoing Harm
Customer agrees that EISH DIGITAL may with reasonably contemporaneous telephonic notice to Customer suspend Customer's access to the Service and/or de-publish a specific publication if EISH DIGITAL reasonably concludes that Customer is using the Service to engage in denial of service attacks, spamming, or using the Service to engage in illegal activity, and/or Customer's use of the Service is causing immediate, material and ongoing harm to EISH DIGITAL or others. In the extraordinary event that EISH DIGITAL suspends Customer's access to the Service and/or de-publishes a specific publication, EISH DIGITAL will use commercially reasonable efforts to resolve the issues causing the suspension of Service. Customer agrees that EISH DIGITAL shall not be liable to Customer nor to any third party for any suspension of the Service under such circumstances as described in this Section. 11. Definitions "Customer Data" shall mean any data, information, or other materials of any nature whatsoever, (i) provided to EISH DIGITAL by customer in the course of using the Service or (ii) obtained by EISH DIGITAL through use by end users of the Service with respect to customer's Pages.
